How to convert PDF text into Word
Convert selectable text to DOCX and handle scanned documents with OCR first.
Check whether the PDF contains text
Try selecting a sentence in a PDF viewer. PDF to Word extracts the PDF text layer and reconstructs a DOCX document with approximate formatting. A PDF describes page placement, so it does not necessarily contain Word-style paragraphs, tables or reading order.
Prepare scanned pages
If the pages are images, use Make PDF Searchable to produce a PDF with an OCR text layer, then convert that PDF to Word. OCR PDF instead produces plain text; it does not directly create a searchable PDF.
Review the conversion
Check column order, tables, punctuation and paragraph breaks in Word. Font names and layout can differ from the original. OCR can misread numbers and names, so compare important values against the original scan. For faithful page appearance in slides, PDF to PowerPoint creates page images; its text is not individually editable.
